What’s your best advice for your younger self?

Reflecting back, I would tell my younger self to not be afraid to be her authentic self and to be proud of who she is!

About Sylvia M. Garcia

Sylvia Garcia has a background in education with a passion for equity. Before her Girls Inc of Chicago journey, she worked as a fourth grade teacher for Chicago Public Schools. During her time as a teacher, she was a Corp Member at Teach for America and attended Relay Graduate School of Education. Her masters program finished in June of 2022 making Sylvia part of the 16% of Latinos that hold a master’s degree. Sylvia is originally from Texas and grew up in Houston. After graduating high school, she attended St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Bilingual Education. Her accomplishments thus far are a testament that through hard work anything is possible. She comes from a Mexican American family and is the only person in her family that was able to pursue higher education. Her goal is to teach through her experience on how all girls are capable of being strong, smart, and bold.
